Michela Pearl
Michela's legal journey began at Florida State University College of Law, where her passion for indigent criminal defense was a clear focus from day one. During her law school years, she gained valuable experience interning with the Innocence Project of Florida and the Public Defender's Offices in Gadsden and Leon counties. Even before graduating, Michela had tried and won multiple jury trials, showcasing her dedication and skill in the courtroom.
After earning her degree and passing the bar, Michela embarked on her career at the Polk County Public Defender's Office, where she served until 2024. With over a decade of experience, she has handled all levels of offenses, from driving on a suspended license to serious charges such as capital sexual battery and murder. Michela has always approached her clients with compassion and a fierce determination to protect and fight for their rights. Known for her unwavering advocacy, Michela never backs down from a challenge.
During her tenure at the Public Defender's Office, Michela held leadership roles across various felony divisions, managed the entire county court, mentored lawyers who were new to felony divisions, and was one of the supervisors of the summer intern program. Her dedication to justice and mentoring has left a lasting impact on her colleagues and clients alike.
When she's not working, Michela enjoys reading, spending time with her dogs, and her guilty pleasure of reality TV. And as a Swiftie, she knows all too well the importance of standing up for what’s right—ready to advocate fiercely for her clients.

Jalen Thompson
Jalen has been a proud resident and dedicated professional in Polk County for over a decade. After graduating from Southeastern University with a degree in music, Jalen began in the classrooms of elementary schools, where he inspired young minds as a teacher. Driven by a passion for justice and advocacy, Jalen pursued his legal education at Florida State University College of Law. During his time at FSU, he interned multiple times at the Polk County Public Defender's Office. While still studying at FSU, Jalen was certified by the Supreme Court of Florida to serve as trial counsel—representing clients as a Certified Legal Intern and gaining invaluable experience. It was during this time that he handled his first jury trial.
After graduating and passing the bar, Jalen returned to the Public Defender's Office as a full-fledged attorney, where he tirelessly defended clients until he left the office in 2024. Known for his tenacity and unwavering commitment to justice, Jalen is a fierce advocate who never backs down from a fight for his clients' rights.
Outside the courtroom, Jalen indulges in his passions for cooking, baking, and music. Whether he's experimenting with new recipes or playing his favorite tunes, Jalen brings the same level of dedication and creativity to his personal life as he does to his legal practice.
